Chapter One: Broken Train
It was late afternoon when Orville climbed into The Cuddleberry Cove Express. That was his train, the only thing on wheels that went to the tiny cove; the old conductor puffed as he reached the top step. Orville removed a small paper bag from his coat pocket. With two fingers, he slid a greeting card out: Happy Fortieth Anniversary
was printed on the front in gold letters. Orville smiled as he thought about the special party planned for that evening at his house. Then he slid the card back into the bag and placed it on a metal counter.
Part of the conductor’s job every day was to inspect his train. Looking farther down the counter, he noticed a sandwich he’d left there earlier.
