    BEFORE YOU START

I was stuck. I had studied for my doctoral degree but still I needed a miracle to complete it and that thesis. It was a stressful time. Working two jobs, going to classes nights and weekends was difficult when you have a wife and two children. And there was so much to study and learn. About 40,000 pages I needed to know and know it well. I began to look into ways to learn faster and remember more. There were a few methods, not very good ones, mostly philosophy about reading and learning. I had to do something better, more powerful, to help myself. After looking at everything in the library and all the self-help companies selling videos and audios, I realized that this was something that I had do for myself. I had nightmares, then...

I BEGAN TO DREAM ABOUT FIRST LEARNING TO READ

When I first learned to read, as a child, I was taught the sounds of letters, then syllables, and finally words. Then I read out loud to the class and my teacher, Mrs. Langbein. As I got older I began to read to myself, and soon I could read the words silently in my head. But that created a habit that’s called subvocalizing. It’s much slower than reading without talking to yourself. Because a person can only speak at about 250 words per minute, or, if from down south -- slower. I was limited in my reading speed. So, first I created a easy method to the stop that inner voice from reading to me.

Then I learned to control how my eyes moved when I read. Then I coordinated my hand and eyes together. Finally I trained my brain to remember and recall (an easy process) and I was a speed reader. This book is the condensed version of my learning method, which I later taught for many years at colleges and universities in the US. It worked for me, and it works everyday for thousands of people around the world in the six languages it’s published in. It’ll work for you too. Everyone who uses it discovered they could double their reading speed in just an hour with very little effort. You can read faster, too. And here’s how.

A memo from DR. JAY POLMAR

    Hi,

Thanks for reading 11 MINUTE SPEED READING. This unique course came from a class that I developed from 1977 to 1981. Then I taught live 3-day classes, to thousands of students and professionals throughout the Southwestern US, Western U.S. and Hawaii for 13 years.

In 1997 the course became available online as printed books. It was modernized to one hour of self-taught, methods because people needed help and didn’t have time for the 3 day course. The book has sold thousands of copies in 6 languages and we ship worldwide every week.

At the request of busy executives and students who didn’t have time for our more detailed courses. We’ve honed the course down to only 11 minute of techniques. When you read, use the techniques and you will fly through your reading material.

Here’s an interesting story told to me by a nuclear physicist who took the course in Los Alamos, at the University of New Mexico. He didn’t understand English very well, but reviewed the technique the previous night. He said he was frustrated that his improvement was only 158% after his first practice. Of course, he was reading in a language that wasn’t native to him. He had been born and educated in Israel. For him Hebrew was his native tongue.

Then he picked up a Hebrew newspaper from Tel Aviv, and practiced his new speed reading method. He said that he flew through the paper three to four times faster than normal.

In order to speed read in a second language, just practice in your native language first to develop your skills. There are many audio programs to prepare yourself, and if you want improved skills, practice.

    OPTIONAL READING TEST

TEST YOUR READING RATE TIME YOURSELF

I am summoned to see the headmistress at morning break on Monday, said Miss Brodie. "I have no doubt Miss Mackay wishes to question my methods of instruction. It has happened before. It will happen again. Meanwhile, I follow my principles of education and give my best in my prime. The word ‘education’ comes from the root e from ex, out, and duco, I lead. It means a leading out. To me education is a leading out of what is already there in the pupil’s soul. To Miss Mackay it is a putting in of something that is not there, and that is not what I call education, I call it intrusion, from the Latin root prefix in meaning in and the stem trudo, I thrust. Miss Mackay’s method is to thrust a lot of information into a pupil’s head; mine is a leading out of knowledge, and that is true education as is proved by the root meaning. Now Miss Mackay has accused me of putting
