Opened my eyes to the fact that so-called 'hillbillies' suffer many of the same burdens as those in the inner cities, yet instead of being viewed as disenfranchised and deprived of a place at the table they are readily ridiculed and humiliated by a society that rightfully denounces all that is racist while unthinkingly chuckling at 'redneck' jokes and bearing a certain disdain for 'white trash'. Deeply disappointed in myself for such inexcusable ignorance. The book also briefly covers a number of other events such as the treasure trove found at the Merkers mine, the liberation of the death camps, and more. Highly recommended.
