About this audiobook
Editor's Note
Lively and entertaining…
Though his work was highly serious, Hall offers ample humor and a lighthearted tone in this memoir of his time as an officer for the O.S.S., an American intelligence agency formed during World War II. Stories of parachuting gone awry and colorful characters met along the way make for a lively, entertaining read about an otherwise dark period of history.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I giggled, snorted and laughed out loud! I may listen again if I’m feeling down and need a laugh.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The story itself is anticlimactic, but the comical description of military life and paratrooper school made it worth it for me.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Top 5 best books of all time.
Funny, well narrated, and well written. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A wonderful book. Dry 1950s humour about the author's time in the Office of Strategic Services. If you imagine hearing war stories from a man who is half Walter Matthau and half Phil Silvers, you will be pretty much on the money.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Best thing I have listened to on this app so far.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A funny and well written book. Well narrated. A good listen.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Hilarious combined with real history. And the narration is outstanding
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well written, inside and out. Along the way, never failing to take the listener with him. H. Allen Smith would have enjoyed the ride. Thank you for this one. W. Fowler.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed this one! Couldn’t wait to see where the next mission took him.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Why wasn’t this ever made into a movie? Why? Why?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such an entertaining and engaging read
I want more books like this - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well Written, Well Read!!! [I just noticed that "Reviews must be at least 10 words." I hope this will suffice.]
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Interesting and somewhat amusing but the dad jokes and objectification of women make this uncomfortable to read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great narrator, nice voice & pace, & really brings out the 1950s style of the text. Glad to discover the book.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Guy is a total douche, would be a decent book if the guy want a perfect perfectionist who could do no wrong. If you don’t like military people who act like douchebags (literally every single one of them) then this book isn’t for you. Full of obviously embellished stories to bring more self confidence to the pathetic author. Great source of information on the pathetic federal government. Very good read if you’re able to put up with the author who is perfect and could do no wrong ever. Seriously, this author tries to make you believe that the second coming of Christ exists in some lowly douchebag lieutenant. Typical enlisted author attitude and typical racism. He’s not a product of his time, the guy whoever it is in this story, is an absolute douche bag who deserves no respect except for the fact he showed us what went on.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A great look at what happened with the OSS in WW2…whitty

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was trying too hard to be funny; I didn’t finish it because I found that was too annoying at a certain point.
