Reviews for Sleep, My Little One

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The story is a lullaby poem from a mother to a child. The heart of the book is so sweet, and you can feel the love; the dedication at the end is from the author to her baby. Sadly, the poem isn't very good. The text is a fine example of forcing odd sentence structures to fit the rhyme. Rhyme is great, but it needs to be organic to the text, not a bully that commandeers all aspects of syntax and style to conform to its dictates. The pictures have a cute subject matter, as they focus on the mom and child, but are not that attractive to me. The accompanying CD is a welcome addition, and the best redeeming feature of the book. It has the story set to song, followed by many other lullabies and children's songs. I wouldn't have bought the book myself - it was a gift - but at least we get some use out of the music.
