About this audiobook

Pretty Celia Mardham should have been a success in her London Season, but a near fatal riding accident has left her with a pronounced limp which means she cannot even make a good curtsey, let alone dance.

There can be no expectation of marriage, but her mama makes one last effort. She draws up a list of guests for a country house sojourn, picking only young ladies she feels will not be rivals, and some potential suitors. Among the well-bred gentlemen is Lord Levedale.

When he meets Celia he sees her, not the limp, but even as his heart draws him to her, he is held back by his duty to his family name.

My initial reaction to this book was … let me say… quite differently than my reaction to “The Devil You Know”. The subject matter and setting were so different and not as interesting initially. But in the end the book was enjoyable and although not as riveting as the author’s other book, it still held its own. And while the narration was not as moving as the first, it was appropriate to the events and characters involved. So, while not a solid 5 overall, just went ahead and gave it a 5 anyway.

Pleasant and amusing considering the pedestrian subject. Author seems to like the word "avuncular". I think it would fare better read by a woman.

What an excellent well written story. I loved it. If Sophia Holloway continues to write in this style I will read everybook and wait anxiously for any new ones. The closest to Georgette Heyer that I have found yet. No trashy sex scenes or panting and pawing. Just classy.

This was a sweet read! Brought up some of the challenges of disability in the regency era and had a fun love story at the core. It was clean (nothing raunchy) and the characters were entertaining
