About this audiobook
Sigmund Freud revolutionized the way in which we think about ourselves.
From its beginnings as a theory of neurosis, Freud developed psychoanalysis into a general psychology which became widely accepted as the predominant mode of discussing personality and interpersonal relationships.
Anthony Storr goes one step further and investigates the status of Freud’s legacy today and the disputes that surround it. The first of several releases from Oxford University Press’s highly successful Very Short Introduction series. A popular and direct introduction.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a fantastic and enjoyable introduction to such a complex topic. I found the clear writing combined with the beautiful reading voice engaging from beginning to end. Concise but informative, authoritative but not at all dense - just perfect! Such a great reading. I’m looking forward to more in the series.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Objective. It cast doubts as well as appreciates Freud’s work as a cultural phenomenal
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Solid introduction to Freud and psychoanalytic theory. Short quick and to the point.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is a brief overview of the main facets of Freud's thought and legacy. It is written with an unusual lucidity for the subject, although sometimes I found myself wanting more detail. Most of Freud's concepts are only given a very general outline. The book is also pretty dated when it comes to questions of sex and sexuality. The author, for instance, talks of their own practice as a therapist and his attempt to "cure" a man of transvestism. Really, OUP ought to commission a new Brief Introduction to Freud that is more reflective of where psychoanalytical thought currently is.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5One of many in the Very Short Into series. Written by prominent Brit psychiatrist A. Storr in a clear, concise manner. Covers the life and work of Freud, explaining his main ideas, theories and writings. Makes you want to read the originals, which I did.
