About this audiobook

Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) was an extraordinarily original thinker, whose influence on twentieth-century thinking far outside the bounds of philosophy alone. In this engaging Introduction, A. C. Grayling makes Wittgenstein's thought accessible to the general listener by explaining the nature and impact of Wittgenstein's views. He describes both his early and later philosophy, the differences and connections between them, and gives a fresh assessment of Wittgenstein's continuing influence on contemporary thought.

The subject matter of this book is not something for the ordinary reasonable reader, even a tertiary educated one. On the other hand, a biography of Ludwig Wittgenstein makes compelling reading. We all use language and it is almost a miracle to observe how infants learn to speak, sometimes in two different languages if a product of a cross cultural marriage. This book is about the philosophical question “what is language?. The author - a professional philosopher - is attempting to explain Wittgenstein’s theory of language. But the explanation was lost on this reader. I imagine what it would be like for a lay person in medieval times listening to scholastic theologians grappling with the question “how many angels could fit on the tip of a pin?” It is of academic interest only!
