About this audiobook
Hailed by The New York Times as "a compelling dystopian look at paranoia from one of the most unique and perceptive writers of our time," this brief, captivating novel offers a cautionary tale.
The book takes place at some unspecified future date when mankind has entered another dark age characterized by irrationality, collectivism, and socialistic thinking and economics. Technological advancement is now carefully planned (when it is allowed to occur at all) and the concept of individuality has been eliminated (for example, the use of the word "I" is punishable by death).
This is a novel upholding Rand's central principles of her philosophy and of her heroes: reason, values, volition, individualism.
An Author's Republic audio production.
Ayn Rand
Ayn Rand (1905–1982) wrote the bestselling novels The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged (1957) and founded the philosophy known as objectivism. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Rand taught herself to read at the age of six and soon resolved to become a professional writer. In 1926, she left Communist Russia to pursue a screenwriting career in Hollywood, and she published her first novel ten years later. With her next book, the dystopian novella Anthem (1938), she introduced the theme that she would devote the rest of her life to pursuing: the inevitable triumph of the individual over the collective.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am. I think. I will.
The idea that one book could have such a profound impact on my thoughts makes it amazing. Struggling with depression, as soon as I hit chapter 11 my mind went quiet and the words that were written in that chapter brought me courage and strength. This book revitalized me, this book brought me strength.1 person found this helpful
