About this audiobook

The 80s Slasher has returned!

Ten years after the horrific murders at Camp Barlow, a group of hard partying college kids descend upon the long dormant site. One by one they are pursued by a deranged killer who isn’t happy to have visitors. Will anyone survive the night?

The Butcher of Camp Barlow is the first entry in the Direct to VHS series, which pays homage to the trashy cult cinema from the 80s.

Its hard to tell if this was supposed to be satirical or if its a sophisticated AI writing Baby's First Slasher settup. It was so basic, so unflinchingly formulaic, that I was expecting a sort of Cabin in the Woods set up.

I rated this as 4 stars because a) I think I’m in love with this narrator’s voice and b) because this short book did exactly what it set out to do. It was a fast paced, ridiculous gore-fest with a bunch of mostly unlikeable teenagers. It has sex, drugs, and blood. It checks all the correct boxes for an 80s camp slasher.

The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because it’s not really good. Which is sort of the point, but I do want to be clear that this isn’t for everyone and a lot of readers are going to label this as cringe.
