This isn’t one of my favorites of Dean Koontz. It seemed to drag in too many places. It is, however, very interesting that I would read it in the midst of this pandemic and all the hate and riots in the world right now. Almost parallels what is happening now in some ways.

This narrator’s accent is absurd. Unlistenable. No one talks like this.

My favourite Koontz to date - by far! - and amongst my favourite books ever. The story is ok, the characters are good, but the language…! The language is sublime. And the delivery, by the narrator, was perfect. Excellent.

This was ok but not quite as exciting or interesting as I normally expect from Koontz. The imagery was amazing-nobody can set a scene or make you visualize better. But the story itself was just ok for me.

Metaphors delight and startle me as I followed the story of such young lives. Each unaware of their true selves amongst the scared humans we all are.

Somewhere between a vampire thriller and a post-apocalyptic adventure, this book was different from what I expected. It has some interesting ruminations on morality and a touching enough love story to keep it moving forward steadily.

I gave this book a chance because of all the rave reviews. Ugh! Interesting premise, but not enough to justify the maximalist writing, preachy monologues and artificial dialogue. I ground through exhaustive descriptions and rambling digressions to be rewarded with a disappointing reveal. Slogging through this book felt like having detention in a hot windowless room. I particularly disliked that the protagonist basically got dragged through the entire story without having to make any real decision or overcome any crisis; a divine puppet, to borrow a metaphor from the book. That’s 11 hours I’ll never get back.

Adolescent angst is made much worse when dealing with vampires. In spite of the presence of vampires, this is not a horror novel.

Easily one of my favourite books. Excellent! Very profound writing. I thought at first it was a new take on the Hunchback story but this book hits at the core of every man's morality, hope, fear and so much more.

Great insight is shown; one should surprised by the knowledge of the world, virology, psychology, and theology presented. Additionally, it is a very good story that is as entertaining as it is provocative. Knoontz, as always, is presenting the tail with the enviable prose with witch each paragraph lives and moves.
