About this audiobook

Soon no one on Earth will have a place to hide in this novel about fears known and unknown by #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense Dean Koontz.

In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob’s Ladder island. Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting.

The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. And now two agents have arrived on Jacob’s Ladder in search of someone—or something—they refuse to identify. Although an air of menace hangs over these men, an infinitely greater threat has arrived, one so strange even the island animals are in a state of high alarm.

Katie soon finds herself in an epic and terrifying battle with a mysterious enemy. But Katie’s not alone after all: a brave young girl appears out of the violent squall. As Katie and her companion struggle across a dark and eerie landscape, against them is an omnipresent terror that could bring about the end of the world.

The narrative was too wordy, and not much exciting action was happening. It was lackluster and had the tendency to be dragging, especially when it came to the parts talking about the characters’ background and description of the setting.

Excellent story. Some of the details were a stretch, but it's fiction. Great narration despite some near-whispered passages that required volume adjustment.

Entertaining with unexpected twists, but loose ends left at end. Good and pretty scary Koontz book. Enjoyed the read but it seemed to end more abruptly than expected. There were some loose ends I felt needed addressing, but overall kept my attention the whole time.

The House at the End of the World by Dean Koontz

    ???

This book had great detail and drew me in right away. But as it went on, it started to drag, and when things finally picked up, it all happened too quickly. The ending felt rushed compared to the more detailed beginning. Overall, it was a good read, but the pacing could’ve been more even.

I’ve read this before I knew it I try to read most of what Dean Koontz puts out. It was still a good book.

A Good, suspenseful, paranoid narrative, compelling characters and an interesting though somewhat derivative SF monster. Think The Thing meets Atlas Shrugged!

The idea was really interesting, but it seemed like Koontz suddenly got bored with the story and ended it without planning a conclusion. Not my favorite.

This was an ok audiobook. I usually love Dean Koontz books, but this one kinda seemed to fall flat on the story. It was really wordy and was more about the main character than about the actual goings on that was so strange and scary. I don't know that I would recommend it to others to read.

I love Dean Koontz. I own and have read all of his books. I read this one straight through as I usually do. Not his best but I enjoyed it.

Fast and fun suspense thriller. Reminds me of the early books in this author's catalog and I enjoyed it very much.

Everyone who reads Dean Koontz knows that he loves words and tends toward the verbose. The long passages of descriptive prose can get a bit much at times, but I do enjoy his imagination. Memorable characters and lots of action makes the pages flip faster.

Katie has endured a terrible loss and now lives in a fortified house on her own island retreat. Unfortunately, her hermit-like existence comes to an abrupt end when the secret government research facility located a couple of miles away from her, Ringrock Island, experiences a catastrophic failure that allows a horrible entity to escape.

Just enjoyed the ride, didn't try to make it political or analyze the text. The story was entertaining even if a bit far-fetched. I always like the way he involves animals in his stories, and this was no exception. All I did was root for the good guys to win!
