About this audiobook
New York Times bestselling author Terry Goodkind has created his most lavish adventure yet. Tormented her entire life by inhuman voices, a young woman named Lauren seeks to end her intolerable agony. She at last discovers a way to silence the voices. For everyone else, the torment is about to begin.
With winter descending and the paralyzing dread of an army of annihilation occupying their homeland, Richard Rahl and his wife Kahlan must venture deep into a strange and desolate land. Their quest turns to terror when they find themselves the helpless prey of a tireless hunter.
Meanwhile, Lauren finds herself drawn into the center of a struggle for conquest and revenge. Worse yet, she finds her will seized by forces more abhorrent than anything she ever envisioned. Only then does she come to realize that the voices were real.
Staggered by loss and increasingly isolated, Richard and Kahlan must stop the relentless, unearthly threat which has come out of the darkest night of the human soul. To do so, Richard will be called upon to face the demons stalking among the Pillars of Creation.
Discover breathtaking adventure and true nobility of spirit. Find out why millions of readers the world over have elevated Terry Goodkind to the ranks of legend.
Terry Goodkind
Goodkind was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, where he also attended art school, one of his many interests on the way to becoming a writer. Besides a career in wildlife art, he has been a cabinet maker, violin maker, and he has done restoration work on rare and exotic artifacts from around the world. In 1983 Goodkind moved to the forested mountains he loves. There, in the woods near the ocean, he built the house where he and his wife, Jeri, live, and came at last to tell his own stories.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a mixed bag. Some reviewers find the story boring and dragged out, with the cool parts only at the end. They also criticize the lack of sword action and the poor audio quality in the audiobook. However, there are positive reviews as well, praising the introduction of new characters and the improvement in the main characters' intelligence. Overall, the book is considered great by some, but others find it terrible and unbelievable. Despite the negative reviews, the series still has loyal readers who are willing to continue to the next book.

It can be frustrating to read this book right after Faith of the fallen because Faith left off in such an awesome spot and you just want to get back to Richard in the old world and you don't wind up seeing him til the very end of this book however if you have not been through the entire story before or it's been too many years and you need to be refreshed on all the details, you pretty much have to read this one. Overall the book is not bad and it contains a bunch of important details to the overall story. Of course the audio is read by Jim Bond so that's also a painful experience... But you can get used to it. Overall the book ends in a satisfying manner and has some great scenes (if you don't read this book you don't get to see Jagang's reaction to the little present Richard left him in Aydindril). - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5

this should've ended several books ago. It feels dragged out. Most of the story feels boring. for the past several books the only cool stuff is at the end. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

It was great , I don't understand the bad reviews on this page , this book was pretty good. It introduced new characters and unlike some of the other previous books , wasn't annoying with the main characters being idiots . All in all it was great - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

Slow going but worth listening to as this novel ties a lot of information together regarding the “truly non-gifted offspring of a Rahl. The audio quality of the narration is very poor. So much so that the narrator often sounds like a computerized voice, which really put a damper on listening to the story. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5

Terrible. Everything that made the first books great was completely missing in this one. Also, the storyline became so unbelievable it defied reason. A girl hidden away from the world suddenly becomes all knowing and then we throw the main characters in at the end to wrap it all up quickly with a convoluted monologue about the virtues of life, blah blah blah. Whatever happened to letting the reader peel away the meaning in their own way rather than spoon feeding them your intentions. I listened to this in audiobook and literally had to listen at 150% speed to just get through it. I am so far into the series that I will probably continue to the next book, but it’s getting harder and harder to stick with this series. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

The Boxes of Destiny, by Terry Goodkind
A lovely epic fantasy novel. Richard is the new Seeker, bearer of the Sword of Truth. He does not know it, but he possesses the Gift, a magic that begins to flow from him unknowingly, developed from his intuitive power to understand the first rule of a wizard and his ability to discern the intentions of those who oppose him.
Accompanied by Kahlan and Zedd, he searches for the third box of destiny before Rahl the Dark finds it. Along the way, he must face various dangers and undergo a trial of pain that no one else has passed, only to then discover who will be that close and beloved person who will betray him, as well as how to make himself known to those who should trust him.
It will be his self-control and his learning in wielding the Sword of Truth that will lead him to face the final challenge against Rahl the Dark and determine if he is worthy of the position he unknowingly is the rightful heir to.
This second installment of the saga is also intense and entertaining; it is hard to put down, as new challenges arise that make you want to know more. I will soon return with the next book.
