Mostly this is a classic Krentz romance with the brooding semifunctional male being rescued from an emotional desert by the heroine. There's also an unusual commune, a missing inheritance, and a killer with OCD. Interesting read every ten years or so.
Richard Ferrone has an interesting manner of narration.
Simple with a touch of mystery. Krentz has done better. Although I do enjoy the connections made by Max and Cleo, through their mutual traumatizing history. There is a mystery there that may surprise you once revealed.

One of Krentz's Washington coast novels, this features hotel exec Max Fortune on the trail of five valuable paintings. He's tracked them to the hotel of one Cleopatra Robbins, who denies knowing anything about them....

No surprises here, but some humorous moments involving Lucky Duck, and unsinkable bath toy, and his irrepressible young owner.
