About this audiobook

Many say that some of their greatest friends, and their greatest joys and feelings, are about animals. Rather than find those same joys and feelings from amongst friends, family and the rest of humanity it can be far easier, some say wiser, to find that from other sources. Some animals may be entirely innocent and entirely devoted to us. But we forget that in the world of wild animals survival is the primary instinct and usually the great enemy is the human race.

In this volume our classic authors, including H Rider Haggard, Saki, Bret Harte, Jack London and many others bring us many tints and shades of our relationships with the animal world, both wild and domestic. Just be careful.

Author

Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821–1881) was a Russian author and journalist. He spent four years in prison, endured forced military service and was nearly executed for the crime of reading works forbidden by the government. He battled a gambling addiction that once left him a beggar, and he suffered ill health, including epileptic seizures. Despite these challenges, Dostoevsky wrote fiction possessed of groundbreaking, even daring, social and psychological insight and power. Novels like Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, and The Brothers Karamazov, have won the author acclaim from figures ranging from Franz Kafka to Ernest Hemingway, Friedrich Nietzsche to Virginia Woolf.

I had such high hopes for this book as I am such an animal lover and there are many well known authors. But as an animal lover, reading about animal cruelty and the deaths of so many as the stories ended,I had to put it down half way through. Well written, but devastating tales. Even the funny ones lacked sensitivity.

Was a fun collection. Well read and only one story that I already heard before.
