About this audiobook

A “mesmerizing” (Stephen King) supernatural novel about a sinister mindfulness app with fatal consequences from the New York Times bestselling author of The Chill.

In this “taut, creepy techno-chiller” (Paul Tremblay, author of A Head Full of Ghosts), recently laid-off newspaper reporter Nick Bishop takes a humbling job: writing a profile of a new mindfulness app called Clarity.

The app itself seems like a retread of old ideas—relaxing white noise and guided meditations. But then there are the “Sleep Songs.” A woman’s hauntingly beautiful voice sings a ballad that is anything but soothing—it’s disturbing, and more of a warning than a relaxation—but it works. Deep, refreshing sleep follows.

So do the nightmares. Vivid and chilling, they feature a dead woman who calls Nick by name and whispers guidance—or are they threats? And her voice follows him long after the song is done. As the effects of the nightmares begin to permeate his waking life, Nick makes a terrifying discovery: no one involved with Clarity has any interest in his article. Their interest is in him.

Gripping and terrifying. The writing is fantastic and the narration is a perfect match for tone and the flow of the piece. A+

I really read it because. Stephan king gave it such a good review, but I was really disappointed. He’s a good writer, but the book was just ODD. Weird. I can’t really explain it any better than that. I wouldn’t recommend it, and I rarely give a review this bad.

Really enjoyed this novel, what I liked best about it and why I migrated here from Audible was NO political rants or agenda disguised as fiction. Good story, good narration.

A interesting premise that lost interest with its repetitive nature as the story progressed.

It was ok. It was supposed to be horror I think, but it was more science fiction. I probably cups ready listened to something else.

A Song for the Dying and the power it may bring to the living has been put into a newly developed app. When a award winning war correspondent is laid off from a newspaper he's left trying to figure out what's next. When he receives a call from a childhood friend back in Maine with an offer of some freelance work he's not sure what to make of it. The reporter finds himself back in Maine hired to write a fluff piece for an Alumni News Letter. The article is to focus on local alumni app developer whose tech seems to be too good to be true. The abilities of the app has the potential to improve quality of life but the reporter starts to get the sense of something sinister at hand. When the app developer encourages the reporter to be a beta tester he finally gives in. The reporter's other childhood friend happens to be CFO of app company. When reporter agrees to beta testing she seems less than thrilled. The CFO later tells the reporter it's not finished and he should delete due to risk of harm. He lies to CFO stating he deleted app. But as a reporter the request to delete just makes him want ro dig for truth and he continues with beta testing. When things start to get weird the reporter may just wish he'd deleted instead of moving forward.

Not your everyday ghost story. Excellent listen. Very unique concept.

I enjoy horror that's possible outside fiction. My only gripe is the twist didn't seem fully plausible.

When a story moves you to the point your emotions come so easily and when they should, tells how good a story really is. This, as an audiobook was emotionally moving, action gripping and completely engulfing. I was so impressed by the strength of each character and the storyline done so well. The narrator, one of the best making you feel it all. His inflections were so believable that you just fell into the story. The author gave us the right mix of characters, visual descriptions and plot, the narrator brought it to perfection. This was the perfect storm of how you should feel when it all works, I could visualize it like I was watching a movie.

I really like the story. A good unique basis for once. The only thing I didn't like is once again a main character that is clueless through 99% of the book doing nothing to direct his own fate and missing the obvious things drop right in front of his face. I really like the ending

This was very slow and didn't give a good return at the end. I went into this audiobook thinking it was a horror novel but it wasn't, it was more of a mystery.

If you like slow burn, over descriptive books then this is for you. It just wasn't for me.
