What a gripping, intense, fascinating and refreshing read. I haven’t read something like this such as dark, historical with Vikings! It’s just what I needed. I loved the history, it took my mind back to what it must have been like for the women who grew up in this time. It was graphic with assault, rape, and death so be mindful going into this. I felt so many emotions reading this book. I love Emeline as the FMC she is so strong and needs to be due to her status and the positions she is put in. Scarth made me crazy I would love him then want to wrangle him but then have feelings for him again. Ulf this man does something to me. I need more Ulf in the next book. The plot twists also had me shocked. Had a few spicy scenes which were intense but also a bonus to the plot and story. The storyline and history gripped me in this book.

Fantastic audiobook as well that kept me engaged while reading the physical book. Jennifer and Derek did a fantastic job.

I will say I don’t like to think too hard when reading books. Just as it’s a different time this book is set in, wrapping my head around places and characters, in general, took some brain power to remember.

Other than that I loved how brutal and dark this book was and will be picking up the next book soon!
