About this audiobook
Marisol Soltero's life is built on big scores and fast women. From her nightclub she rules over the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago with ruthless calculation. Though everyone knows her as the Queen of Humboldt, Marisol lives part of her life in the shadows. When she hears of an impending assassination attempt against the Governor of Illinois, those shadows threaten to ruin everything she's built.
Governor Sabrina Sloane has spent her life cleaning up the streets, first as State's Attorney in Chicago and then as Governor of Illinois. Every criminal to cross her path has ended up behind bars—except one. When that criminal saves her life, she's forced to shine new light on everything she thought she knew.
As a mutual enemy forces them together, Marisol and Sloane must work as a team in a fight for their lives. Can they overcome their differences and their growing attraction to find their way to freedom? And can Governor Sloane ever bring herself to trust the Queen of Humboldt?

Why do the mobsters always have to be beyond bad and their love interests are always black or white types? Marisol commits how many murders... somehow sanctioned or ignored by the government. Its always a big drama llama. I appreciate that this is an undercover gig... but the plot holes are massive. How can someone study Marisol for years to know to use Sabrina as bait but not find the hidden location for the hotel? How does someone who's a gang leader suddenly get secret spy level training without being missing for too long or not being discovered by their own ring? How can someone kidnap them both and still not think to use Sabrina as the lube to make Marisol talk? How can they both get kidnapped and think the bad guys wont just use Sabrina as bait again? How can the bad guys know secrets about the rescue ops for the trafficking ring but not consider that someone further up in the government especially in Columbia and or the US embassy in Columbia not be in on the ring.... esp with Columbia being known for having dirty politicians??? Also the cliffhanger ending is unnecessary. Im not even sure I want to read the second book. The torture and deaths a pretty graphic and I think they deserved a TW at the beginning, especially for a book that is only 5 years old.
