About this audiobook

What will separate you from the rest early in your career? The ability to take ownership, manage expectations, navigate people dynamics, and communicate professionally-skills that school doesn't teach.

Most career guides assume that you already know how the working world works. But if you're starting your very first job or taking a job in a new company, you might not know all the unspoken rules that determine who gets ahead and who doesn't. In The Unspoken Rules, you'll learn the basic workplace skills necessary for success.

From the author: "Over the last four years, I've interviewed over five hundred interns, early career professionals, managers, and executives. . . . My conversations revolved around three key topics:

- What are the most common mistakes early-career professionals make at work?

- What would you do differently if you could relive your first years on the job?

- What do you think separates top performers from mediocre ones?

After testing the advice I gathered from these hundreds of interviews, I started coaching other early-career professionals. Now I'm distilling everything I've learned into a step-by-step guide called The Unspoken Rules."

This was a fantastic book! Every work scenario and advice are super practical. I appreciate the templates of how to reach out to there in large organizations. The final chapters on communication hit home for me. I needed to hear that perspective. When the author said, "nobody can read your mind," it was designated to me because I have been doing a lot of work and not telling my manager what I've been doing to help my performance evaluation. For some reason, this has been holding me back. I'm always afraid to share because of being viewed as braggadocious. But now I understand how vital this communication is, especially when working remotely.

Insightful, practical and minority-conscious! Would highly recommend to anyone in their first job.

I did find it leaned more toward white collar workers, so it works better for folks in those roles. But otherwise a great read!

I loved it. It helped me to understand and get ideas on how I need to stand after 10 years (stay-home mom) coming back to work on Engineering field. Thank you.
