About this audiobook
Sarah O'Brien is only alive because of the pact she and her brother made twelve years ago-James will protect her from their violent father if she promises never to leave him. For years, she's watched James destroy his life to save hers. If all he asks for in return is her affection, she'll give it freely.
Until he asks for more than she can give.
Sam Donavon has been James's best friend-and the boy Sarah's had a crush on-for as long as she can remember. As their forbidden relationship deepens, Sarah knows she's in trouble. Quiet, serious Sam has decided he's going to save her. Neither of them realizes James is far more unstable than her father ever was.
And James is not about to let Sarah forget her half of the pact . . .

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is one of those books, where I know who I'm rooting for, but either guy she ends up with would be satisfying to me. Which surprises me, as I was pretty firm about how it should end for most of the book. But as the story progressed, and things started falling apart, I realized that either guy would be acceptable. I don't want to give anything away, how it all ended up, but I will say that I wasn't pleased. (spoiler) I am a firm believer that not all love stories have to end with a couple together, sometimes the Happiest of Ever Afters is when the main character ends up alone. But I feel like this story should have ended up with Sarah getting at least one of her loves, not neither one. Preferably that would have been James, but as I said, I'd have been okay if it was Sam too. (end spoiler)
I want to add, this was very clearly a YA book, with the sex scenes all happening behind closed doors (and I actually didn't mind that here.) That being said, the topics that were discussed and the plot that unraveled, it goes well beyond what some can tolerate. So if you have any triggers, I highly suggest that you find them and take heed. This book was great, but it was heavy and may not be for everyone
