- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Doctor John Bondurant, a forensic anthropologist, receives an invitation from the Vatican to examine the Shroud of Turin. Since the Church claims it to be the burial cloth used to cover the body of Jesus Christ, he is quick to accept the offer so that he can prove that this revered Christian artifact is a fake.Domenika Josef, the Vatican representative, believes the relic is real and wants the investigation to prove this in order to rescue the tarnished reputation of the Church; she hopes the findings of the arrogant, self-important Bondurant and his team will prove the authenticity of the Shroud. But the evidence doesn’t reveal the relic to be a fake. And when a sample of the blood from the Shroud, believed to be that of Jesus Christ, disappears, Bondurant must find a way to stop the evil forces who have their own plans for the Second Coming. This thriller will draw readers in from the very first page; unforeseen plot twists help to ramp up the suspense. The characters are well-drawn and believable, although Bondurant sometimes falls into the absent-minded professor cliché. Readers will find much to appreciate in this tale filled with secret societies, varied locations, and more than enough intrigue to keep the pages turning.Recommended.
