About this audiobook

Award-winning author ReShonda Tate Billingsley delivers a poignant, page-turning novel about the power—and fragility—of family, personal identity, and the choices we are called on to make . . .

Raised by a widowed mother, Jill Reed has come a long way from her difficult youth. But while she may not have had money, Jill never doubted she was rich in love. Her mother, Connie, made Jill the center of her world. Now, even though she has a young family of her own, it’s Jill’s turn to care for her ailing mother.

When early dementia begins to set in, Connie starts talking about Jill’s “other life.” Jill assumes it’s just rambling confusion. Still, Connie’s stories about Jill’s childhood, and her father’s early death, never quite added up. And when a strange man shows up to Jill’s job bearing news that turns Jill’s life upside down, there’s no denying Connie’s devastating secret.

As Jill sets out to learn more about her past, she’s stunned by what she learns and what it will mean for her future. Now, she must decide what price she’s willing to pay to claim the life that’s rightfully hers.

The main character I felt was ungrateful and selfish and couldn't see and understand what her biological mother was going through. I felt the book was a disappointment. It was upsetting to read. It was one sided and unrealistic.

As a mother I cannot begin to understand the mindset/attitude of the main character. Wrong is wrong regardless of the reason. The main character is actually a mother so I need someone to make it make sense. All in all it was a terrible read, just a bit unrealistic and some of the topics could be a triggering for some readers.

I really like this book. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars just because I didn't enjoy the underline racism shown towards the main character

Mrs. Reshonda has done it again! I came across her on this app and have literally been binging all of her books! The way she tells a story is so captivating that I can not stop listening! Stolen child was more than I expected it to be and the drama has me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next! I’m riding and listening and yelling and laughing at the book! Well done!
