About this audiobook
Meet the Henderson family: Jeff, a struggling salesman who lives with a constant nagging fear that something will happen to his family; Will, who’s just trying to figure out life in the fifth grade; Emily whose greatest concern is that she won’t be nominated homecoming queen; and Amy, who is growing stir-crazy from being a housewife of eighteen years—and is convinced this was God’s plan B for her life. The Hendersons are longtime residents of Goodland, Kansas, a small Midwest town where nothing new or exciting ever happens … until now. Are the recent “weird” happenings and catastrophic weather mere coincidence, or more? The town spirals into chaos and confusion as its residents discover the end is no longer near—the end is now. Rob Stennett’s second novel is both a satire and a story of the apocalypse, a thriller and an exploration of family, community, belief, unbelief, and the two thousand-year-old Christian tradition of looking to the sky because the end is near.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The premise of Left Behind gets stood on it's head in this satire that tackles Christian's beliefs about the rapture and the end times. It seems that in Goodland, Kansas (why did he pick Goodland?) they believe that they will be the first to be raptured. So when a local school age boy from the Henderson family has a vision in a cornfield that details how "the end" is near he finds a ready made audience willing to believe him. Then the first of his three signs is mysteriously fulfilled and things really start to go crazy. This book tries to be as much about a family's struggle to stay connected as it is a satire of Apocalyptic fervor, however it is the satire that is it's strong point. The characters are kind of flat and unremarkable. For Christians who get satire or who have a dark sense of humor this book will be enjoyable. Unfortunately, the story and characters are not quite good enough to interest readers who aren't into the satire, so unless this kind of humor sounds like your cup of tea I'd caution you against this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The End Is Now by Rob Stennett centers around a few days in the life of the Henderson family, an all-American family of four (Jeff, Amy, Emily, and fifth-grader Will) who live in a small town in Kansas. Will has what he believes is a word from God saying that the rapture will occur soon. Part of the town, and part of the Henderson family, believe that this is true, while the other half believe that Will is at best imagining things and at worst, lying and causing trouble for the town. Passions spiral out of control as people are caught up in the events. The story is an off-the-wall tale which is both humorous and sad; it is about life and families and love and God and religion and human foibles and more. I laughed out loud many times when reading the story. For anyone who thinks the story ends abruptly, I will give you a hint -- turn a few pages because the end is not always THE END. Thoroughly enjoyable, well written, funny, and thought provoking.
