About this audiobook

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong is back with an anthology of rare and never-before-published short stories and novellas featuring favorite characters from her beloved Otherworld series. It has been more than ten years, thirteen installments, and hundreds of thousands of copies since Kelley Armstrong introduced readers to the all-too-real denizens of the Otherworld: witches, werewolves, necromancers, vampires, and half-demons. Now, fans of the series can revel in the fact that their favorite characters are back in a new Otherworld anthology. Featuring new stories and tales only found in obscure collections, Otherworld Chills explores the personal conflicts of Nick, Hope, Karl, Cassandra and others. Each story will expose readers to important facets of this complicated world, and bring to light important character developments along the way.

Author

Kelley Armstrong

When librarians finally granted Kelley Armstrong an adult card, she made straight for the epic fantasy and horror shelves. She spent the rest of her childhood and teen years happily roaming fantastical and terrible worlds, and vowed that someday she'd write a story combining swords, sorcery, and the ravenous undead. That story began with the New York Times bestselling Sea of Shadows and continues with Empire of Night. Armstrong's first works for teens were the New York Times bestselling Darkest Powers and Darkness Rising trilogies. She lives in rural Ontario with her husband, three children, and far too many pets.

This anthology contains Brazen, Chaotic, Amityville Horrible, Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word, Off-Duty Angel, The Puppy Plan, and Baby Boom. Brazen gives Nick a chance to shine. Chaotic chronicles Hope and Karl's first meeting. Amityville Horrible stars Jaime with a guest appearance by Jeremy. Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word stars Zoe Takano and Cassandra DuCharme. Off-Duty Angel has Eve fighting boredom. The Puppy Plan stars Logan and includes also Kate and their parents. Baby Boom stars Paige and Lucas with Savanah and Adam making guest appearances. What I especially liked about this anthology was that most of the stories were longer almost short novel length. I also like to have the convenience of this collection which gathers together stories that had appeared in a variety of publications. It is always good to revisit the Otherworld and its characters. These stories helped fill in the gaps and bring closure to many characters and plot threads.

With only one all new piece of fiction this might not be the best buy for hardcore readers of Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld stories. But if you haven’t read the small press novellas or tracked down every anthology her work has been in or bought an electronic only version of a short story then this is a treat. I read most of her stuff and I still get a few new nuggets in this collection. This collection has a varied collection of POV characters and it covers almost all of the supernatural races that her world encompasses. Overall this was a great read and I’m sure at some point there will be another collection since I know there are more small press novellas out there.

Enjoyable overall. Some I had read already, some new ones.

Book received through Goodreads Giveaway. I have only read a few books in this series and was a bit lost by some of the stories. However, they were very entertaining and really make me want to finish reading the rest of the series. I thought they were great, though "Baby Boom" made me ugly cry for a bit due to the emotions going on in the story. I have seen that some of were in other anthologies, I can understand people being not too happy with the book. I like the fact that they are now all in a single book by a single author so you don't have to go searching through multiple anthologies for a story in a particular series. If you enjoyed the series, I highly suggest reading this book to complete it.

A fun collection of shorts in the Otherworld series. I enjoyed some more than others but liked them all. It was nice to visit with these much loved characters again.
