This is a super cute illustrated book for the entire family. I appreciate that Walliams explores illness, heartache and grief without being overwhelmingly dismal.....there's plenty of joy and laughs to be had here. Well done!!

Just started. Realizing that the page count is not likely so heavy, as there seem to be lots of illustrations. The cast of characters alone is as long as many picturebooks.

I do notice the words 'posh' and 'upper-class.' I wonder if that's fully intentional... I thought that modern England had gotten somewhat past that sort of thing.
    ..........
Done. So, yeah, those words are used to get our attention and make the point that everything in here is exaggerated. Walliams & Ross really are the new Dahl & Blake. In fact, Ross's illustrations are even more key to enjoying the story, and I think I enjoy Walliams' outrageous creativity even more.

This particular story has a ton of heart, too. A quick & funny read, but def. not fluffy escapism. I will continue to read what I can find from the author.

I really liked this book: the story, the characters...
In fact, I really like this author and his imagination, all the desires, and his writing style.
I will read another book by this author, and I recommend it 100%. (Translated from Spanish)

This book was a slow burner for my youngest son and I. We enjoyed it very much in the end, but it took a while to get going as David Walliams sets the scene and introduced to the children and their stories.

I loved the way that the children were very real and their illnesses and it wasn't necessarily all 'happy ever after' - but of course it was wonderful to see the nasty Matron get her comeuppance.

An enjoyable book which introduces the idea that not everyone has a great childhood and that just because someone looks different doesn't mean they are something to be feared. Lots to teach children through this one.
