About this audiobook

New York Times best-selling author Lili St. Crow has won a steadfast following for her Strange Angels series of darkly compelling-and undeniably sensual-tales. At 16, Dru has seen more supernatural phenomena than almost anyone on the planet. So her teen years are far from a walk in the park, especially after Sergej kidnaps her best friend Graves. Willing to do anything to save him, Dru embarks on a desperate quest that might just be her last.

Defiance prove to be as good as the rest of the series. Dru has learn who is the traitor and has been turning her over to Sergj. She is still undecided on who she cares for more Graves or Christophe.

Dru is learning where her role in the Real World is but what others want from her and what she's going to do are two different things. She's determined to be herself and protect her friends, but some others don't seem to respect her decisions and are determined that they're going to gain power by controlling her. This isn't going to ever sit well with her. It's an interesting series and I'm curious where things are going to go now, though much of the detail escapes me at the moment.

I love ALL of these books in this series and yes she's (Dru) running from one problem to the next which some may say is unbelievable, but hey, so are vampires! If you want fun action packed, kick ass characters.. this is a series MUST HAVE!!!

When this book arrived on my doorstep Tuesday (delivered by my not-so-cheerful UPS guy--I think he hates me. I don't know why. I mean, he's only delivering new books and stuff to my doorstep every other day or so!), anyway, as I was saying, when DEFIANCE plunked down on my front stoop yesterday, it was all I could do not to tear into it at that very second. I resisted it until right after work Wednesday and didn't put it down until I finished it. Oh. My. God. So good. This is the fourth Strange Angels novel and, if you haven't read the first three, you really should check those out first. While it's possible to pick this book up and read it without having acquainted yourself with Dru, Christophe, Graves, and the rest of the gang, you'd be missing out on a lot of the backstory and might get slightly tangled up in the terminology and details of Dru's world.Typical of Lili St. Crow (and her adult writer-self, Lilith Saintcrow), the story is nonstop action with knives flashing, blood spurting, and howls of pain echoing in the night air. Awesome (holy cow, I do love me some urban fantasy!). Finally somewhat safe and sound at the main school for djamphir and werwulfen, Dru's honing her fighting skills so that when she blooms, she'll be able to take care of business (killing nosferat, the bad vamps) and not get herself killed. But she's worried about Graves, her best friend--her only friend, really--who was taken by Sergej, the King of the Vampires.Dru is so confident one moment, like when she's in the middle of a fight and her training kicks in and she just knows what to do, and then the next, she's lost, unsure of who to trust (Though she has every right to have trust issues. Those vamps are sneaky buggers.), unsure of her feelings for the guys in her life, and even unsure of her appearance. It makes her such a solidly real character, that she might be a tough, totally kick-butt girl on the outside and yet, she's just as confused as every other teen growing up.And I love the action scenes. Lili St. Crow writes those scenes with clarity and precision, so much so that I can picture each whirl, twist, kick, and slice as Dru battles her way through the bad guys. Great imagery, complete with scents (the taste of rotting, waxen orange signaling the approach of the nosferat), sounds (tentacles sounding like wet hamburger being dropped onto sheet metal), and sights (maggot-white fingers).DEFIANCE and the Strange Angels series is stellar--a stand-out in the world of urban fantasy that will hook readers from the very start.

Dru does it again! She is, by far, my favorite YA heroine and she just can't seem to do anything wrong! We left off with poor Graves being kidnapped and Dru being left in charge of the Order. While everyone's waiting for Dru to bloom, she's desperately trying to get a lead on where Graves is being held. After a lot of this and that we finally get to the good stuff. ASH! Oh yea, someone's been looking out for the Silverhead and he and Dru manage to release him from Serje's hold. Which in turn lets him change back! Lets take a moment to relish in the hotness that is Ash...Okay, on to more important parts.Once again, someone has betrayed Dru, and it's a doosie. Depending on what "team" you're on, I think you'll react differently to this. Since I'm Team Graves, (though really I'm Team Ash) I wasn't as surprised as other might be. Christophe, to me, is a pervert. I mean come on, he was in love with her mother! That makes him really, really old, and she's still 17. Gross. Anyway, after learning of this HUGE betrayal Dru does the one thing she can and runs off to rescue Graves. After a huge battle to the death Dru and Graves are once again on the run. I cannot wait for the final book, Reckoning to release this Fall. I'm so excited and yet so sad to see such a wonderful series come to an end. It's been rough, but I'm so happy to have experienced this story and I just hope there's a somewhat happier ending in store for Dru. God knows she deserves it after all the hell she's endured. If you've been keeping up with Dru and the gang, then you'll be blown away with the latest installment. Go get it now, you won't be disappointed.5/5 Stars!

I am pretty sure that I started my review of the last book in Lili St' Crow's "Strange Angels" series, "Jealousy", by proclaiming it as "sheer fantabulousness". Well this fourth installment of the series? I declare it to be infinite fantabulousness! I didn't think that it would be possible for me to love this series, especially its characters, anymore than I already did and I was totally wrong. This book exceeded any expectations that I had tenfold and I do believe it to be the best book I have read this year, if not as well as last year (yeah, it totally blew "City of Fallen Angels" out of the water, and I am sure that we all know by now that I pretty much worship Cassie Clare and her "Mortal Instruments" series). In fact I loved it so much that as soon as I finished it I started it all over again! One of my biggest pet peeves in YA paranormal books is when the female character is introduced to the "Real World" (the world of all of the paranormal creep crawlies) by the male character and then the male character proceeds to tell her to stay away from said world because essentially she is unknowledgeable about it and all of its dangers. However, the female character believes herself to be the expert in said world and then decides to do lots of things behind the male characters back in this world and ends up in a whole slew of trouble that she could have avoided if she had just listened to the boy. So I seriously rejoice Lili's writing and story weaving because I do not find myself experiencing this with her books (yes you could argue that Dru knew about the Real World prior to meeting Christophe, but that would be a stretch, as we have seen, she only knew a mere fraction of it, Chris introduced her to the entire svetocha world, and she didn't do what so many of these dumb heroines did, putting herself into unnecessarily dangerous situations- she put herself into necessary dangerous situations, situations where she was pretty much the only one who cared about the outcome because everyone else was too concerned with keeping their lies that they fed her in order). Usually in my eyes there is a clear-cut winner as to what male the female character should end up with (the new mysterious boy rather than her best friend), but in this series I am so gosh darn conflicted (not that the girl has to end up with the boy, as per what Lili said in my interview with her last month last month, but that just seems to be how everything goes down in YA), I seriously do not know who I want her to end up with. Christophe or Graves? Christophe, who has made her the fighter that she is today and who truly hasn't lied to her (even though she thinks he has) or Graves, who she dragged out of the human world, shoving him into the Real World and who doesn't blame her one bit for doing so? Seriously, how is a girl to choose? I said in my review of "Jealousy" that it gave us the most answers than any of the previous books in the series, but this book gave us even more sought after answers and for that I am grateful, no more sitting there and pondering for hours after reading the book about how things are going to turn out! The only downfall about this book is that one character who I expressed my love for in my review of "Jealousy" ended up hurting my heart a lot, but another character, who I was so intrigued by in the earlier books, really managed to put that broken heart back together with his somewhat goofy (though at the same time menacing) grin and random outbursts of "BANG!"
