Newly married and just days from becoming a father, Tres gives up the dangerous life of a private detective. He's buried too many friends to put his new family at risk. But while honeymooning on Rebel Island, he stumbles upon a murder victim, triggering memories of his own shady past. Chasing after a ghostlike killer, Tres races against time and the elements as a devastating hurricane beats down on the island, cutting off the mainland and placing everyone in imminent peril.

I was surprised to see another book in this sequence after Mission Road. So many main characters were either killed or married off I didn't think there were enough left to form another plot. However Riordan has taken the reader on another exciting ride by bringing in a bucketfull of new characters who are as colorful and shady as the preveious ones. As always, there are many turns in the plot and the identy of the culprit is again a surprise. Most of the story occurrs on St. Joseph Island, renamed rebel Island for the story and the characters are somwhat tied to the Island or at least Corpus Christi. Having lived in Corpus, the story brings back memories, as the flavor of the people down there is brought out well by Riordan. A very enjoyable book. There are eough loose ends for another book in the series someday.
