About this audiobook
Acclaimed author Dan Andreasen bases this folksy book on the real people believed to be history's tallest married couple. Nearly eight feet tall, Captain Bates arrives in Seville, Ohio, with his head sticking out the train window. He and his wife-who is just as tall-are tired of being in the circus and are looking for a nice place to live. But is Seville big enough? "The storytelling style and appealing subject matter make this book an excellent choice for reading aloud."-School Library Journal, starred review

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Based on the true story of Giants Martin Van Buren Bates, who was seven and 1/2 inches and HIS wife Anna Swan who was almost eight feet tale. After joining the circus, they decided to find a permanent home. They settled down in Seville, Ohio, built a house on 130 Acres of farmland. And, the rooms were 14 inches high with eight foot doors. After staying in Seville, Ohio, they longed once again for the circus life and rejoined. This is their story of the friendly folk of Seville, Ohio who welcomed Martin and his wife. The illustrations are delightful, and the tale is a good lesson to import on children that we should accept those who are different than we are.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a fun tale tall about a real life giant. This can be a great way to teach children about acceptance and friendship. The story is fun and easy to read.
