Weird Karoo Weddings

• The most exciting event that took place in the Karoo village of Aberdeen in 1954 was the marriage between local girl Numeri Kilian and circus strongman Bubi Meier in the centre of a (I Remember Aberdeen), was present at the famous ‘lion wedding’. ‘One of the lions roared at the presiding magistrate so he decided to conduct the service from outside the cage,’ she writes.
