About this audiobook

Grizz Brickbottom is one tough cowboy. But even the toughest cowboys, those who floss their teeth with barbed wire as Grizz does, can use some companionship. So Grizz adopts a dog that will help out with the cattle rustling and the mountain lion chasing. But somehow Grizz ends up with a pretty, pampered poodle, not a fierce, brave canine. John Frank delights in this tale filled with vivid imagery and loveable cowboy characters, who end up getting tamed by a little poodle named Foofy. Narrator Ed Sala perfectly captures this delightful story of how the West got a little less wild.

Delightful. Even before I read Roberta's review I could tell that the cowboys and dog were drawn from life. Probably the cattle are, too... I want a print of Pullen's cattle. The story is ridiculous & crude, but refreshingly creative. I will look for more by artist and illustrator.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. It was not what I was expecting judging from the title cover and flipping through looking at the pages. I would really enjoy reading this to my students and getting their predicitons of what they think will happen. The roughest and toughest cowboy in the west, Grizz Brickbottom, and his friends buy a dog. They expect the dog to herd cattle, but when they buy her they are dumbfounded at the responsibilities they are expected to do for the dog. In the end they all fall in love with Foofy and do every responsibility that they were supposed to do. The illustrations in this book were perfect! They were very life-like.

Very entertaining! I had a gifted actor from a local university come and read to my elementary students. They loved it!Well-developed characters.
