- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Ahhh this is the Vampire Diaries I know and love! I love the characters and enjoy the story. I hope that it's not the end of the series, but it seemed like it was.If this is the end, it was left open ended and I don't like that. I like my series' tied up in a neat little package.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Shadow Souls was better. This book kind of felt like a let-down. After all the development of relationship between Elena and Damon in the last novel, it just seems kind of boring to have her go back to Stefan. The fact that Bonnie also cares for Damon is nice, but also needs to be further developed. The book was good, but a little bit of let-down. I expected more.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5What to say, as series books go this one at least has a plot and characters that are somewhat original and not a retelling of past books. The world of Fell’s Creek is in chaos because of two Kitsune who were introduced in the last story. Stefan is back after being rescued by Elana and Damon, but he is not strong and needs blood. Elana’s friends Meredith, Bonnie, and Matt have gathered at Mrs. Flower’s to decide the next move when Damon opens a portal and accidentally takes Bonnie with him to the Dark Dimension. Elana and Stefan go after them, while Mrs. Flower, Matt, and Meredith stay behind to fight the Kitsune. So this is basically two different stories, Elana’s story in the Dark Dimension and the story of her friends left at Fell’s Creek fighting the Kitsune. This book is the last of this series, but the ending begs for a sequel. However, it won’t be written by L. J. Smith since the publishers own the rights to the books. There are three more planned books to be written by ghostwriters. At least Smith’s series did end with a book that was interesting to read, had developed characters and was not a retelling of one of the other books in the series.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5What a disappointment.. When we last left our group of friends in Fell's Church, the girls had survived the Dark Dimension, rescued Stefan, and Damon had accidentally taken the humanity meant for Stefan. Kids in the town are still being affected by the kitsune magic, and as we open people are fleeing right and left. Now Damon's off to try to become a vampire again, winds up taking Bonnie back to the Dark Dimension. Meredith's past comes to light further, and it turns out there is a lot more she never knew about the attack by Klaus. Elana is still apparently not sure who she loves (like there's any doubt of who she winds up with), Shinichi and Misao are still acting like evil brats but who's pulling the strings? And someone's supposed to die for good...Then you actually read the book. Which is long, poorly edited, and it seems LJ had yet another surge of new ideas which she wanted to work in to the story as quickly as possible. The entire Return trilogy suffers for it. I had such hopes after Shadow Souls but once again the plot development truly fails. There's no flow, the characters seem to be losing their real spark and drive, and what kind of ending was that? Granted, the death at the end did throw me for a loop and I still don't want to believe it, but LJS went against her word as to what would happen with it. (Not coming back? Not from what I have heard...)Unfortunately LJS is now going to be off any further Vampire Diaries books, which will definitely keep me from reading the series any more. I feel so let down that things ended like this.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Newly-turned vampire Stefan saw the world as his oyster, with the promise of immortality bringing endless possibilities for he and his vampire brother, Damon. Unfortunately, Damon does not see things this way, and the book is spent with Stefan trying to win his brother over. During the process Stefan must face new situations that force him to think about his place in the world: he must come to terms with the end of his human life, learn his position in a band of vampires and decide if the human world is fit for someone like him. Like it’s predecessor, the second installment of Stefan’s Diaries is centered on romance, but comes to paint love in a negative light. As Stefan has recently become a vampire the story is filled with descriptive language of blood: the smell, the sound of a human’s heartbeat, the way that the blood affects him, etc. The book repeatedly mentions happenings from the first book, but explains them so that readers can pick up the second book without having read the first one. Stefan’s alluring character from Vol. 1 continues to draw readers in, almost as if he is compelling us to read, as he compels his victims.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a really enjoyable read.I found myself having some bloodlust as I read through it. Maybe I was a vampire in a fictional past life.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Awesome book!! This second book of the series is about how Damon is captured by a vampire hunter and Stefan is the only hope to rescue Damon. But then he falls in love with the vampire hunter's daughter Callie and must choose between huis brother or his love. This book also shows how they struggle to cope from changing from a human to a vampire as they whole life has been turned around. I give this book 4 STARS!! If you love stories about VAMPIREs, love and death then this is the book for you!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This second book of a series follows seventeen year old Stefan Salvatore and his older brother Damon, after they have been turned into vampires by Katherine Pierce. Katherine was killed by the town's people and both brothers are still grieving about her death. They have only been vampires for one week and are still new to being "undead". However, they are forced to flee their hometown of Mystic Falls after the town's people decide to kill them. The brothers arrive in New Orleans, a city that is strange and new to them. After an argument they decide to go their separate ways. Alone and lost Stefan eventually joins a band of vampires who are lead by Lexi. Stefan soon finds out that Damon is being held by a vampire hunter named Patrick Gallaher, who keeps Damon in a cage and forces him to fight wild animals. There is also some romance in this novel as Stefan falls for the vampire hunter's daughter Callie ,who agrees to help Stefan rescue his brother. This book is actually a prequel to the first book. It outlines the mental and physical changes Stefan and Damon went through as they changed from humans into vampires. I have read up to book six in this series and was glad that this prequel came along as I finally got some answers and more of an insight into the Salvatore brothers' lives as humans and vampires.
