About this audiobook
Three hundred nautical miles from shore, I‘m cold and sick and afraid. I pray for reprieve. I long for solid ground. And I can‘t help but ask myself, What the hell was I thinking?
When Sue Williams set sail for the North Atlantic, it wasn’t a mid-life crisis. She had no affinity for the sea. And she didn’t have an adventure-seeking bone in her body. In the wake of a perfect storm of personal events, it suddenly became clear: her sons were adults now; they needed freedom to figure things out for themselves; she had to get out of their way. And it was now or never for her husband, David, to realize his dream to cross an ocean. So she’d go too.
Ready to Come About is the story of a mother’s improbable adventure on the high seas and her profound journey within, through which she grew to believe that there is no gift more precious than the liberty to chart one’s own course, and that risk is a good thing … sometimes, at least.

Sue Williams earned a degree in occupational therapy from Queen's University and practised OT for over thirty years. In 2016, she left the health care field to focus on writing. Sue lives in Guelph, Ontario.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am not a boater, nor do I know anything about boating or sailing. I have no interest in boating or sailing, but do love people's life stories and their reflections. This writer tells a tale of parenting, relationships and dreams that come true... Hard work, fear, experiencing the unplanned and riding it through. I loved this book.
The end/epilogue was very special! The experience she has of meeting an occupational therapy client and assessing them in a much different way she would have before her voyage, and using lessons that she learned for herself during that voyage and would now use for the rest of her life was a fantastic ending.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Interesting in the concept of crossing the ocean. Most of the book held me but I, not being a sailor myself, Got lost in many of the names of the different parts of the boat. At times exciting ,at times little boring,I suspect the telling resembled the living it in many aspects. All in all, a good read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Beautiful story it’s so much reality rolled in to each chapter.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was the best audio book I've listened to. The story was told in such a way that I was able to live it as the adventure unfolded. I cheered, cried, and felt myself longing to live my dreams as David and Sue lived theirs.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A most excellent adventure. Well narrated. We follow the transformation of a wife, mother and case worker into an adventure-loving blue-water sailor. It is, among other things, a testament to love. Though ever so politely, the author entered this adventure figuratively kicking and screaming. She indulges her husband's dream. It gradually transforms her from a traditional modern housewife into to an adrenaline junky. It was a nostalgic read, for me. She captured the feel of those meetings of strangers and fellow travelers in remote places, and the intense joy of life that bonds them in those moments.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5While the story was okay, including two instances of having sex was entirely unnecessary. This is non-fiction, and your kids, friends, and family members are going to read it.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was entertaining and real. If you have ever dreamed of sailing off on an adventure of a lifetime this would be a good book for you.
Note, I listen to over a 100 books a year, I have reviewed 1 other. This one deserves a great review!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great true adventure memoir however the narrators voice sounded too old and conservative for this adventurous lady .

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Story was more about family than sailing. Throughout, their was a negative experience, David was hardly mentioned, Sue always over emphasizing things that went wrong . Narrator did not help by being over the top and loud, making it a uninteresting read but, hey that's my opinion.
Kind Regards
Paul
