If you enjoy a wealthy, liberal, arrogant elitist intermingling a few political diatribes in a book supposedly about a dog but that mostly isn't - this book is for you.

If you're a true dog lover, you won't like this author.

His complete lack of self awareness, coupled with his selfishness and entitlement attitude is breathtaking and not in a good way.

He's supposedly taking a road trip because the dog is in such poor health that it wouldn't survive a flight. So what does the author do? He makes the trip about him. He takes the long way, across the hot desert in August. He ties the dog outside in 95 degree heat and leaves it unattended so he can have a sit down meal. He is seriously aghast that the fine hotels that he is so accustomed to don't accept dogs. He's clearly never traveled with his 14 year old dog and he is much too good for the likes of Super 8. I could go on...

He refers to his kids as his "idiot kids" and doesn't paint the nicest picture of his mother and her "bad death." He refers to the dog as getting ready to "kick the bucket."

His wife is too obsessed with scaling the corporate ladder to care much about her dog, and her actions when she finally sees him again are bizarre.

So, again, if you enjoy wealthy elitists who call your towns "shabby," are clueless about how real Americans live, can't drive in the rain and expect everyone to bow to their wishes and talk a little about a dog - this is your book.

A delightful story about traveling across America with an old dog. He does have little rants in the book about different subjects as another review mentions but I didn’t find them offensive. The story it’s self was worth it to me.

Kept my attention until the gun control rant and the open letter speech to the NRA! C’mon! It’s a book about a dog! But you took it there!??
