About this audiobook
with his guardian, Riley, and liege lady, Evangeline. Although they’re in hiding, a man named Finn Ambrose
tracks them down, claiming to be Jax’s uncle and giving Jax hope that he actually has a family after all.
But Uncle Finn may have an ulterior motive. As it turns out, Jax’s great-aunt is the reigning leader
of the Dulacs, the enemy clan who assassinated Riley’s family. When the Dulacs kidnap Jax’s best friend,
Billy, to lure Jax to New York, it becomes clear that the Dulacs, family or not, will stop at nothing to get
what they want. Hoping to trade himself for Billy—while keeping Riley and Evangeline out of danger—Jax
goes to Manhattan on his own, where he meets Uncle Finn; his nearly identical twin cousin, Dorian; and
the rest of his supposed relatives.
There, he stumbles upon a maze of magic tunnels below his family’s apartment building. Uncle Finn
and the sinister Dulacs have been keeping secrets from him—and one of them might be the location of
Evangeline’s long-lost sister, Addie.
With the Eighth Day—and the entire Emrys bloodline—hanging in the balance, Jax struggles to
comprehend who he really is despite all that he knows.
An Ambrose? A Dulac? An Aubrey?
OR AN INQUISITOR WHO WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO KEEP HIS LIEGE SAFE?

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In this story, Jax, Riley and Evangeline are on the run from both evil Transitioners and Kin who really want both Riley and Evangeline dead. They have decided that they need to find Evangeline's younger sister to protect her from the same threats. The two girls are the key that keeps the spell that locks the evil Kin away from the rest of humanity. Evil Kin want them dead to destroy the spell and evil Transitioners want to control them. They follow clues to Addie's location but find that they have arrived just after she has run away from the safe house where she has spent over 30 years in normal time. Calling on the sneaky Donohues for aid give them additional leads but forces Jax to meet Tegan again. He isn't sure what his relationship with her is. They're thirteen; her treatment of him might indicate a crush. When Jax's Normal friend Billy is kidnapped by the Dulacs, Jax goes to rescue him and learns that he has family he didn't know about. He has an uncle and cousins who are vassals and part of the Dulac family. It was the Dulacs who wiped out Riley's family and who really want control of Evangeline. Their family gift is mind control and a diary Jax's cousin Dorian has found which was written by Jax's father gives Jax a really good idea why his father ran away from home and never contacted them again. The story is filled with adventure as Jax tries to protect Riley and Evangeline while rescuing Addie and his friend Billy. There are all sorts of twists and turns and danger from all sides. There is clearly more to come in this story and I can't wait to read what happens next.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Inquisitor’s Mark by Dianne Salerni is the second book in the Eighth Day series. It picks up where the last book left off, and Jax, Riley, and Evangeline are in hiding after all the excitement they were a part of in Mexico. Jax and Riley are Transitioners, a special group of people who experience an extra day between Tuesday and Wednesday. Evangeline is also special and only lives on the eighth day, but it helps her stay in hiding as she is a descendent of Merlin and people are after her because her power can make them more powerful. The trouble in Mexico has brought the trio into the spotlight and now more people know Evangeline exists. Jax's family also realizes he's alive and wants to claim him for their own. Family is something Jax has wanted ever since he was sent to live with Riley. Unfortunately, his best friend, Billy, gets kidnapped by Finn Ambrose, Jax’s newfound uncle. He takes off without telling anyone where he's going because he feels it is up to him to save his friend. In the process, Jax meets his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. It doesn’t take him long to realize how dangerous his family line is. They have skills that can do a lot of harm! Mind control is not something to mess with and his family doesn’t agree. It doesn’t help that Evangeline’s sister is missing and now danger surrounds the eighth day and many lives are in jeopardy. Who should Jax trust? Should he have told someone where he was going? Is Evangeline’s sister hidden and will they be able to find her? You won't stop reading until you find the answer to these questions and more!
As soon as I put down The Eighth Day I knew I needed to get my hands on The Inquisitor’s Mark and start reading. I already loved the idea of the eighth day and hoped this book would show me even more of this unique world. It didn’t disappoint! The world that exists for the Transitioners and those who only exist on the eighth day is even more complicated than I could have guessed. Jax’s family was filled with people who had strange and dangerous skills. I wouldn’t want anyone trying to control my mind. It's creepy to think about! I kept trying to figure out what Jax should do and who he should trust, but it wasn't easy for me and it's not easy for him. It made me think about how lucky we are if we have friends and family that we know we can count on. I recommend this book to kids in fifth grade and up who like dystopian books and enjoy adventure. What a fabulous story and the author does an awesome job world building. Now I just need to get my hands on the third book in the series, The Morigan’s Curse!
