If we believe ourselves to be a government of the people then anything the government does to us as individuals can be considered just and voluntary

Boy, oh boy, is that ever a loaded gun!

It’s funny, but as I get older, I become more and more conspiracy minded, seeing evil and bad faith in many actions committed by governments on “our behalf, for our own good”. I don’t remember being as cynical when I was young…my guess is that 20-30 years ago I would have found Rothbard’s old school polemical pamphlet rather “crazy conspiracy mindset”.

But 20-30 years ago we hadn’t spent 2 decades fighting a lost war in Afghanistan or experiencing a couple of years of enormous swaths of the globe under lockdown.

Well narrated, and a piece everyone should read. Part of the 4th chapter is cut off, so 1 star removed from an otherwise perfect recording.

An accurate inditement of the State, but quoting Calhoun is a tell of Rothbard's later paleo phase. Recommended over all.
