About this audiobook
A special, dramatized audiobook version read by the author and Roshina Ratnam.
**I know you don’t want to talk sometimes. Sometimes because it hurts and sometimes because you’re just not supposed to talk about what you want to talk about. Sometimes it can be hard to say, “this is beautiful,” when no one else can see what you see. Or, “Here, this is where the pain is.” But some part of you knows, the truth about the words you cannot say is that they only hurt until you say them. They only hurt until the person who needs to hear them, hears them. Because we are human, and the closest we’ve ever come to showing each other who we really are, and how we love, is with words. So I’m going to try to say to you here, what I wish you’d say to me too. Please.
Listen. We can change things.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is a fairly pleasant read, you feel like being given access to a personal psychotherapy journal that someone is willing to share. So, you can appreciate the inner workings the author has done, and you can resonate with some experiences.
The main focus is about self acceptance, being kind in the world and being present, ie being aware of time passing and of the ways in which the world changes us.
Top 3 poems in this volume, in my opinion:
(1)The world will always wear you down,
So let it wear you down until only
The good remains.
How?
You love again.
Recycle your heart.
Someone out there needs it.
(2) Remember:
You cannot nail words or water to a board.
All our words have ever done, is leave our lips; and become air.
(3) Given enough time,
Every building collapses,
Every flower turns to ash
Every candle burns out
Every name must be forgotten.
This is not sad.
I rated this 3 stars, as it reflects my assessment of the craft of the poet. Some of the ideas were expressed too directly, and using colors and images does not turn plain language into poetry.
But I could feel that he was sharing real and personal mental health stuff, so overall the entire volume left a good impression on me. Think type of mental hygiene is necessary for all of us.2 people found this helpful
