About this audiobook

Bridgett Devoue takes you on a journey into the transformative world of love, lust, heartbreak, and abuse, and discovers the steps to finding lessons within pain.

why does love become abusive? and when does pain become a lesson?

Soft Thorns Vol. IIis the continuation of author Bridgett Devoue’s debut poetry collection Soft Thorns and picks up on her journey of self-discovery and seeking answers to the questions all of our souls inevitably ask.

Similar to Vol. I, Soft Thorns Vol. IIis a five-chapter collection of long- and short-form poetry accompanied by gorgeous illustrations, this time in collaboration with artist Laura Kline.

Devoue is not known to shy away from the darkest corners of the human experience; in fact, she dives deep into those waters and allows the reader to explore the shared vulnerabilities that all of us face. Her poems touch on topics such as longing, lust, toxic love, self-destruction, confusing breakups, abuse, and overcoming it all through finding light in even the darkest of places.

Devoue’s exploration into these topics is relatable to any human struggling to find peace in life’s turbulent waters. This book won’t give you a life boat, but it will show you how to swim. This is the book for the curious, the dreamers, and the struggler’s, those who carry an insatiable urge to grow and the knowledge that life offers more for the fearless explorers of the unknown; this book speaks to the aching soul that lives in all of us.

I’ve found that this author can be hit or miss with her poetry. However when I read her books I love her illustrations. I also really loved the audiobook narration; the author has such a comforting and beautiful voice, and it definitely made me enjoy it more.

    My favourite poems were:
Sometimes we stay in toxic relationships to stay distracted from the painful reality that it’s us that needs to improve.
I’m sorry it seemed that I didn’t trust you, it’s just that I was always looking for rejection in all of your actions. Because I didn’t believe that I was capable of being loved.
We are the book and the world is reading us. There’s beauty living within our pages that we can’t see, so we must trust others to read it for us. Your heart is a library filled with novels about the people you love, and even if their no longer in your life, the love that you once felt can be found within these pages. Available for you to read on a rainy afternoon. When you need their warm embrace.
Part of loving someone is letting them go, while letting them know they forever have a space in your hearts library. Bookmarked for their return.
