About this audiobook
Olivia Twist is an innovative reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic tale Oliver Twist, in which Olivia was forced to live as a boy for her own safety until she was rescued from the streets. Now eighteen, Olivia finds herself at a crossroads: revealed secrets threaten to destroy the “proper” life she has built for herself while newfound feelings for an arrogant young man she shouldn’t like could derail her carefully laid plans for the future.
Olivia Brownlow is no damsel in distress. Born in a workhouse and raised as a boy among thieving London street gangs, she is as tough and cunning as they come. When she is taken in by her uncle after a caper gone wrong, her life goes from fighting and stealing on the streets to lavish dinners and soirees as a debutante in high society. But she can’t seem to escape her past...or forget the teeming slums where children just like her still scrabble to survive.
Jack MacCarron rose from his place in London’s East End to become the adopted “nephew” of a society matron. Little does society know that MacCarron is a false name for a boy once known among London gangs as the Artful Dodger and that he and his “aunt” are robbing them blind every chance they get. When Jack encounters Olivia Brownlow in places he least expects, his curiosity is piqued. Why is a society girl helping a bunch of homeless orphan thieves? Even more intriguing, why does she remind him so much of someone he once knew? Jack finds himself wondering if going legit and risking it all might be worth it for love.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A cute, imaginative re-telling of Oliver Twist that was rather entertaining. Olivia Brownlow was raised as a boy amongst the streets in order to survive. After a job gone wrong, she is taken in by her uncle. During the day, Olivia is a lady but at night she runs off dressed up as a boy to help a group of orphaned street kids. Jack MacCarron, also known as the Artful Dodger, is also living a life different from his own. His “aunt” took him in to start robbing people. One day, Jack comes across Olivia, who piques his interest and seems vaguely familiar to him.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The perfect plot and the most beautiful romance make this book exquisite from the very first word to the very last! ❤️
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The reader was superb which may explain the 4 stars. Interesting, sweet reimagining of Oliver Twist as a girl with romance.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really enjoyed this YA romance / classic retelling.
Wonderful characters, well-thought through plot (couldn't find any holes or far fetched ideas). The twist (no pun intended) to the Dickens story is used in a great way, there's suspense, romance, and a hat-tip to Kingsmen. :) - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I don’t know why I was expecting this to not have a romantic storyline to it but I really wasn’t and it kind of took away from the story for me. I still liked the book and will check out more from this author in the future, I will just make sure to read the synopsis a little bit more closely next time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book. Some tales are classic such as Oliver Twist and I do love Oliver! But this book works if you are willing to accept that young Oliver was really a girl masquerading as a boy. I can accept that as the life of a young girl on the streets of London was likely to be more the story of Nancy. Then add in Jack MacCarron, once known as the Artful Dodger and there is a story to be told. With those two twists in the plot, it elevates what is a fairly clean Victorian romance to a good story. The plight of orphans on the street is still addressed.Warning: If you are looking for an ultra-clean "Blink" book, this may not suit. There are some strong words, but nothing that would have been bleeped on TV from the 1970s. Olivia must make some hard choices regarding her life, but realizing one has made a mistake and trying to fix it in order to be true to oneself is not a bad message in my mind. I wouldn't hesitate to share it with a reader in high school.Recommended for those who like historical fiction or clean Victorian romances.

When Jack encounters Olivia, he wonders why a society girl is helping a bunch of homeless orphan thieves--and why does she remind him so much of someone he once knew? This book was such a fun read! A new "twist" on Dicken's Oliver Twist with a bit of victorian romance thrown into the plot.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5If you can ignore the fact that characters of Olivia and Jack are quite different from those in Dickens and that the main plot contradicts the events in "Oliver Twist", then you might enjoy this young adult novel. There are a few places where the language used struck me as anachronistic. And the legal/police aspects seemed unlikely to me...
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As a loose retelling of the classic, the plot lines have been changed, but the historical setting and plight of the poor are still there as well as some of the most prominent characters. Olivia spent her childhood as a boy on the streets of London before being rescued by an unknown uncle. The Artful Dodger has also been rescued from the streets. Olivia is torn between making a good match to save her family from financial ruin and caring for the poor children she identifies with so strongly. The conflict between her old life and new as well as her growing attachment to her old friend Jack make for a compelling conflict.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I purchased this book from Amazon to read. All opinions are my own. ????? Olivia Twist by Lorie Langdon. A twist on an old Dickens classic that will have you on the edge of your seat. This book is a love story within a love story full of thieves, robbers, cops, upper society, and a murder in less than 400 pages. It is an edge of the seat read that will have you rooting for the bad guys just as much as you are hoping for the good guys! I am happy this was my choice for my final book of 2018! Here is to bringing on more books in 2019 that will keep us all occupied!
