About this audiobook

Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, she buys a lottery ticket on a whim, and, to her astonishment, she wins! In a flash, Maddie's life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships-nope, now she's suddenly talking about renting a yacht and basking in the spotlight at school! But then rumors start flying, and random people begin asking her for loans. Suddenly, Maddie finds that she isn't sure who she can trust. Except for Seth Nguyen. Her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo doesn't seem to be aware of her big news-and, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. What would happen if the one person she still trusts were to find out? With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

In the past i have thoroughly enjoyed novels by Kasie West, but her last two have been disappointing and I am not sure if I will bother with any more books by this author. Lucky in Love was so predictable it was painful and Maddie, the protagonist, annoyed me most of the time. For someone who was supposed to be intelligent, I found her fickle, naive and incredibly stupid, and her extravagant spending had me cringing. In fact, I preferred her two best friends, Blaire and Elise. At least they had character and interesting personalities. The only reason I gave this book two stars instead of one, was Seth. He was a sweetie, but even his character needed more depth. Sadly, Kasie West is just another YA author who has descended into mediocracy.

How would your life change if suddenly money weren't an issue anymore - especially if before money was a huge issue? Maddie is a people pleaser and it isn't fun to watch her be taken advantage of because of her changed economic situation. It is rewarding to see her finally grown a backbone. There's a bit of a romance and the cliched question of whether Seth likes her for her or for her money. But overall it's a pleasant story.

I have to say, this book disappointed me. I usually have a lot of fun ready Kasie West books and they make my heart happy, but this one just totally missed the mark. The writing felt sloppy, and juvenile. The dialogue was stilted, and the whole plot and story just made me cringe. I liked Maddie as a character, and her family dynamic was pretty good, but it felt like her parents weren't involved enough. It felt a little unrealistic...my parents would have been on me and made the financial advisor appointment for me, and would not have let me go buy a car by myself. It just didn't gel with me. The romance was cute, and I understood Maddie's reluctance to tell Seth about her lottery win, and I enjoyed how they worked things out.Overall, I was disappointed, and the plot just felt very contrived and formulaic.

I got this book as part of a giveaway at the YALLWest 2017. Having loved my first-read Kasie West book "By Your Side", I decided to give this one a whirl, and am I glad I did.I was surprised to find out it took place in a county I'm very familiar with. I don't read many books based in that area. What I loved about it: the setting and the realistic feeling of it. I think most teens would act the way Maddie did when receiving the money. This is a good book for a teen romance. It doesn't try to make you believe something, but really shows you the life of a teen girl who's life changes when she turns 18. If you're into teen romance, and for any Kasie West fan, you won't be disappointed about this read.

Another adorable YA read from Kasie West!

Ever daydream you've won the lottery? Yes? No?? Experience the ups and downs of striking it "lucky" with Maddie, a girl who splits her time studying and working at a zoo. After taking a chance on her birthday, she wins bigs. Suddenly her problems seem to vanish. No more worrying about college, her brother's degree, her family's money issues, parents fighting, etc. Until she realizes she's only replaced her old problems with new ones. Mainly who to trust? Can she depend on her old friends, family, her "sudden" new friends, distant relatives, or her co-worker "Zoo Seth" who she's been crushing on for a while?

For me, it was heavy on the be-careful-what-you-wish-for and seek-wise-counsel, and light on the romance. However, it has a perfectly sweet ending with Zoo Seth that is gush worthy.

I have to say for audiobooks, the voice artist really impacts how I enjoy a book and I really feel like they missed the mark here. All of the voices besides Maddie’s were ridiculous, especially the best friends.

The story line was just okay, unfortunately, but not enough for me to get past the voice acting.

Not a big fan of the narrator

Almost DNF a couple of chapters in.

    Her friends were horrible
