- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5"Venom" is a non-fiction science book that describes many differenty types of poisonous and venomous creatures. It has tons of pictures and diagrams that show the reader many parts of these creatures. It gives insight into their biology and why they use thier defensive and offensive weapons of venom and poison. It gives a lot of good insight into these different creatures, what they are like, and what environments they live in.This book could be used as a cross-curricular connection in an English classroom. They could read a book that coincided with their biology lessons of insects and reptiles. It can also be a great example of a science non-fiction. It gives knowledge along with interesting and fun pictures that are sure to interest students.I really enjoyed reading this book, but I have always been interested in snakes. I am afraid of spiders, so this book was a little scary at times. However, I think it would be a very interesting book to read in class with students. I am sure most students, especially boys, would like to read this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Venom by Marilyn Singer is a short book that details most every living thing that is either poisonous, or feeds on the poisonous creatures. Do not let the cover fool you, this book is not just about snakes. It includes facts about poisonous land and sea dwelling creatures including spiders, jellyfish, and butterflies, just to name a few.I would teach this book in a classroom because it has two characteristics that are great for students to be exposed to. The first facet of this book that makes it great for teaching is that it is nonfiction, but interesting nonfiction. Students need to be exposed to nonfiction reading, but they also need books that will hold their attention and not become boring. This book is anything but boring. Also, this book is informative. This aspect of Venom makes it great for students to read because they learn about animals, while also reading.Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Most of the time, I dislike reading nonfiction, but this book kept my attention from beginning to end. It was extremely interesting and very educational. In addition, the pictures are beautiful and eye-catching. I highly recommend this book to those of you who are curious as to what is poisonous in our environment, and the depth to which it can harm us.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I liked this book!!! It is not only about snakes, it is about all kinds of critters. I learned a lot about bugs that are in your home that are deadly. I think this is a great book for students of all ages. It is an easy read, and you can start reading on any page at any time. It is about venomus bugs, frogs, and snakes. It make me think something was crawling on me for days!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Don’t be fooled by the cover, this is not your ordinary book about snakes. When you open the book Venom, you will find captivating pictures, interesting text features, and most importantly, factual information about a wide range of venomous animals. Bees, ants, shrews, mosquitoes, jellyfish, caterpillars, stingrays, and of course snakes are just some of the creatures that are discussed in this book and believe it or not, several of these are found in our homes. This book is written in a format that allows for reading to start at any point due to the fact the animal descriptions are usually two pages in length. This is a great choice for children who are easily overwhelmed by lengthy books. Teachers and parents will like the bibliography and webliography that are located at the back of the book which list wonderful resources for related information.
