N NATURE, VENOM either subdues prey or defends against attack. It’s found in a huge variety of wildlife, from spiders and scorpions, to jellyfish and frogs, and even a primate – the slow loris. At least 15 per cent of animal species are thought to be venomous. Venom didn’t first evolve in one species long ago with the genes responsible being passed down.
