- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I think the author did a good job with all things considering. The story itself was interesting...however the characters were just ordinary...but seeing that it was based on the events that occurred after a frat part goes badly wrong...i suppose ordinary is the best description for them. I was very impressed with how this author handled the people that made up his account. William Van Meter tells this story without any condescension. Life in semi-rural Kentucky would be filled with cliches in the hands of other writers but not Van Meter.. He shows us the aimless lives of the two boys and the semi-aimless life of the girl, their unimaginatively bad choices and their almost innocent kindnesses. Bottom line...they were children...barely out of their teens. It's not a perfect story with a neatly tied-up ending but the facts are laid out well but still you come away not really knowing what actually happened in that dorm room. A creepy....excellent read.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I was greatly disappointed in this book. I am an avid true crime reader, and being from Kentucky, I had not heard of this crime and was intrigued. The writing was horrible and he made the victim and her family somewhat unsympathetic. Rather than tell the story of poor Katie Autry, the author simply quoted what I thought were probably taped conversations with the people involved in this tragedy. Not one I would recommend.
