About this audiobook
On Sunday night, April lies in bed, trying to sleep. She is excited. On Friday she and her mother will take a train to her grandmother's house. Almost a week is such a long time for a little girl to wait. But as April takes a bus ride, goes to the market, visits her father at work, and eats lunch at a diner, the days slip by. Everywhere she goes, there are people who are different sizes and shapes, and have different needs. At last it's Friday; April and her mom are on their way. At her grandmother's, April will see lots of flowers, each one as different as the people she has seen during the week. Featured on The Oprah Show, Lori Mitchell's gentle book teaches a wonderful lesson about appreciating individuality. Different Just Like Me is an American Book Association Kid's Pick of the Lists and was given the Director's Choice Award by Early Childhood News.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such a beautiful story! A girl tells a story of everyone she met and everything she saw during the week before she could go to grandma's house, and how everyone is different, just like her. The author's daughter had a pigment disease that have her skin white spots, and the book was written for her. It really highlights the beauty of diversity and the importance of unbiased inclusion and acceptance. The pictures were lovely, and there were examples of the sign alphabet, Braille, and many other things mentioned in the text illustrated in the margins for interaction and discussion. The diversity of it is beautiful, and I love the summary of all her encounters at the end and how like her grandmother's flowers, everyone was beautiful and different, just like her.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Genre: Realistic FictionGenre Critique: This book is a good example of realistic fiction because it not only has a storyline that could easily happen in any child's life, but it has characters that children can relate with as well. The book's story may not be based on a true one, but these events are very believable and probably even happen on a regular basis as kids are curious about others.Review/Critique: I thought this was a wonderful book, and would be a great teaching opportunity for kids. It is always great to have examples of how everyone is different but that we can also have things in common as well. Great story!Media: Acrylic paint and graphite pencil on arches watercolor paper

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Genre: Realistic FictionAge: Primary / Intermediate Media: Watercolor This story is told from the point of view of a little girl anticipating a visit to her grandmother on Friday. Everyday she waits and even when she actually meets her grandmother, she sees many different things, different people around her, but all of them are just like her of like the things she would do too.
