A nonfiction children's picture book on the history of thanksgiving. Perfect for use in classroom to teach about thanksgiving! Very informative and accurate with beautiful illustrations. Perhaps for slightly older reading levels, as there is a bit of historical context needed.

This books gives a history of how thanksgiving originated around the world and in the United States. It provides examples on how other people throughout time have celebrated Thanskgiving, such as the Jewish people or farmers in England in the Middle Ages. It also talks about the correlation between Thanksgiving in the past and how it is celebrated now. Good book!

Nice illustrations and informative text. Thanksgiving didn't orignate with pilgrims and Indians; it traces it's roots all the way back to Eygptian days with the god Min. Egyptians gave thanks to the ferility god Min after a good harvest. The Chinese celebrate Moon day and make cakes on the full moon, giving thanks with the harvest moon. I was surprised to learn that Canada celebrates the holiday in October. I am grateful to the feast tradition started with the pilgrims and Indians. I look forward to the chance to spend time with family. Months and months go by when we don't see each other. It's nice to get together and catch up on things, and remember old times.

Gibbons once again does it again as she creates a story line that creatively explains to children the meaning and purpose behind the holiday of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is, shows the communication and friendships between the pilgrims and Indians. This is a wonderful resource for teachers to get projects out of and allow students to explore their own creativity to express in projects that they might discover in the book.
