Summary:Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is a young boy visits a nursing home and meets Mrs. Nancy. They become real close and Wilfrids mother told him that Mrs. Nancy lost her memory. He didn't know what that meant so he went around asking others what was memory? He received different responses when everyone. When he went home he went through his old shoe box and found a few things that he thought would help Mrs. Nancy's memory. Wilfird believes he found Mrs. Nancy's memory.Personal Reaction:This book really touched my heart because I could see myself going and "looking" for someones memory. I have been around many people who have alzheimers and it just breaks my heart when I see someones memory drifting away and if there was any way I could help them I would do it in a heartbeat.Classroom Extension:1. In the classroom, the teacher could have their students make a shoe box filled with what they consider memory.2. In the classroom, the teacher could have their students share any experiences they have had with forgetting about something.

But his favorite old person is 96-year-old Miss Nancy. Everyone says Miss Nancy has lost her memory, and despite the fact that Wilfrid doesn't even know what a memory is, by accident he helps her find it.

Summary: Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is a young boy who lives next door to a retirement home, where he has developed many good relationships with the people who live there. His favorite person was Miss Nancy Alison Delacourt Cooper, because she has four names just as he does. One day, Wilfrid heard his parents talking about how Miss Nancy has lost her memory. Wilfrid sets out to ask all of his friends at the retirement home what a memory is, and he gathers a variety of different responses. Wilfrid goes home to collect items based off of the descriptions of what a memory is from what people tell him. He then goes to share the items with Miss Nancy, who then makes connections from them and starts to regain her memory while remembering things from her past. Genre Critique: This book is an excellent example of realistic fiction. The setting, characters, and events are all believable. It is very realistic for a boy to interact with the elderly people living in his neighborhood, show empathy towards them, and help them out in any way he can. Children can relate to the boy's curiosity in figuring out the meaning of a new word, and with helping others out. Those who have grandparents may be able to connect the events that occur in the story to their own lives. Media: colored pencils and pen

Done as a read-aloud, could work well for introducing a writing lesson and having students share their memories.

Summary: This is a sweet story about a young boy who lives by a nursing hime. He knows everybody that lives there, but his favorite person is Miss Nancy Alison Deracourt Cooper because she has four names like the boy. After hearing his parents talk about the woman losing her memory, he takes it on himself to help her find it. He asks around the nursing home about what a memory was. After various explanations, he collects all his items and shows the woman, who then starts remembering.Personal Reaction: I really enjoyed this story. It was very touching and also humorous.Classroom Extension Ideas:A. A good idea would be to allow a student to have a pen pal from the nursing home. They could write them and ask different questions about their lives and send pictures and other items.B. Another good idea would be to allow the students to visit a local nursing home or on a computer take a virtual tour of one.

This touching book, captures the simplicity of love and friendship. The simplest gift, with the truest intention can be the most powerful. The illustrations capture the diversity of characters at the 'old people's home' and the story shows how very differently each person can see something. It captures the concrete thinking of a young child -- whose gift opens up and inspires the imaginative thinking of adults. A powerful story of giving and friendship.

This book is about a woman who has lost her memory. The little boy next door asks everyone in the retirement home what a memory is, and they tell them their own definitions of it. So he collects an item per definition and gives them to Miss Nancy. The items spark her memory, and she begins to recall the things she has lost. This is a phenomenal book. Great to read along side with "Grandpa Green."

This book could be used for Writer's Workshop using the topic of "Memories." Students could write about their favorite memory in their journals. I think students will like this book because they could relate to it.

Summary:A young boy who lives next door to an old peoples home. He visits and talks with the people that live there. Then he finds out that this lady that lives there has lost her memory. He tries to find all these things that people told him were memories and give them to her. Personal Reaction: This book touches close to my heart. I had a great grandmother who had lost her memory, and at a young age it wasn't easy to understand how or why this happened to her. This book is good for gently covering a subject like memory loss to young children. Classroom Extension Ideas:1). Children in your classroom could make or possibly bring something to class that holds a special memory to them and share it with the class.2). I would also have the children relate to the topic of memory loss and ask if anyone in the class could relate to what happened in the book, class discussion.

This story is about a boy named Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge that lived next to a old peoples home. He would go visit all the people in the home and his favorite person was miss Nancy Alison Delacourt. Miss Delacourt would have problems remembering things including the boy. So Wilfried picked up shells, puppet, a medal, football, and a fresh warm hen egg and put them in the basket. Miss Delacourt took different things out of the basket and started to remember things from her past and now. my grandmother had this problem remembering things and some people that she knew. Showing pictures to my grandmother helped her remember me and certain things like necklaces and who gave them ask gifts. Telling students visiting a nursing homes is a wonderful idea to see how old people live. Then telling them when they get permission to visit a home and read to them or helping get them something that they need.

Author Mem Fox and illustrator Julie Vivas truly deliver with this gem. A young boy helps his elderly friend who is suffering from memory loss recall some precious experiences from time long ago. It's a beautiful story of empathy, fostering respect and love for those in their golden years. Refrain and powerful word choice are employed throughout the text. Vividly depicted, the illustrations prove to be delightful as well.
