PIMP MY RIDE

I have a bit of cash saved up, but unfortunately not enough for a new bike. What’s the best thing I can buy to upgrade my current one?

Colin Weare, via email

It’s hard to say, without knowing what kind of kit you have on your current bike and what your budget is. If you’re looking for something relatively cheap and simple, anything you’re directly in contact with is a worthy upgrade – a new saddle, pedals or grips can all increase your comfort and enjoyment of each ride. Good tyres are also worth forking out for, as a fresh set with a decent tread pattern and rubber compound will elevate your riding experience, giving superior grip as you push into corners and more traction as you tackle climbs.

If you have a bit more money, a new wheelset can be a worthy investment.
