BEAST OF BURDEN
I’m looking to do a few multi-day rides this year – a couple in Wales and perhaps one in the Alps. I’m not interested in camping; I’ll be staying in B&Bs, but will probably have quite a bit of kit with me. What’s the best way to carry it – backpack, frame bag or saddlebag? I ride an aluminium Marin Rift Zone.

Sounds like you’ve got some proper adventures lined up, Chris! Each option has its benefits, but from experience, the key thing is to minimise how much you take along. The less you carry, the lower an impact it will have on your bike’s handling and your effort levels on the climbs. Believe us, you’ll be thankful on your first ascent!
As you’re staying in B&Bs, we’d advise taking just one set of riding kit. Wear quick-drying items and wash them in the shower each evening when you arrive. Lay
