At university you are busy and while food is social, money is often in short supply. The irony is that you need your best nutrition when you are studying. Here we offer cheap easy-to-make meals that will suit students or anyone on a budget, such as: berry chia pudding; chilli bean burritos; lentil soup; chicken fried rice; Aussie ramen; and easy meatballs.

Easy Meatballs DF

Spaghetti and meatballs is comfort food personified, but what student has the time, money and fridge space to buy a million ingredients to craft the perfect gourmet meatballs? I'm not a student, but this is still my favourite way to make fast and fabulous meatballs using a supermarket hack and minimal equipment. Show me a student who will say no to more time and money.

Serves: 4

500g gourmet beef or pork sausages
1 tbsp olive oil
400g spaghetti
Jar good-quality pasta sauce
Parmesan, to serve

1. Remove the sausages from their packaging and use a sharp knife to gently slice open the casing along one long side. Peel the casing off and dispose.

2. Cut the sausage filling into 4 or 5 sections, depending on the size of the sausage and your personal preference for meatball size.

3. Roll each section with dampened hands into a meatball and sit on a plate.

4. Continue until all the sausages have been turned into meatballs.
