FAT QUARTER PROJECT
BEHIND THE QUILT
TWO TRADITIONAL BLOCKS
“In this project, I have combined two classic traditional blocks, turned them on point (which means turning them through 45°) and sashed them with cornerstones to create a new take on traditional quilt block settings. The blue block is called Stiles and Paths and I have rotated this through 45° to create a new version of the block, which gives more movement to the design. Aunt Eliza’s Star (the red block) is another traditional block and is usually made similarly to an Ohio star, using quarter-square triangle units around a centre diamond shape. I decided to make this as a traditional Morning Star block, finishing at 5in, using half-square triangles rather than quarter-square triangles, and then rotated it through 45° to create the Eliza’s Star block shape.” – Lynne Goldsworthy
