With the latest autofocus systems featuring multitudes of focusing points and eye- and subject-detect modes, it’s easy to be over-reliant on the technology and expect focus to be perfect every time. Most of the time, there’s no problem but on important shots, especially when you are shooting at wide apertures where there is minimal depth of field to cover for any focusing error, it pays to check. If the image isn’t sharp, move the AF point using the joystick, D-pad or touch screen, refocus and then hold focus with the autofocus lock (AF-L) button or partial depression of the shutter button.
